A great day

Today was one of those rare days where nothing went wrong for a change. I love days like this and hope to have more.

I took out for her birthday. With Bean in tow, we went to Logan's Steakhouse, which is a very cool place. (Any restaurant that plays the Rolling Stones and Stevie Ray Vaughan is cool.) We each had an appetizer (mozzarella sticks), a steak (she had the ribeye, I had sirloin), and dessert. Bean had her usual chicken fingers, and everyone left full.

Went to the mall to find a certain store, but it was not there. So we went to Barnes and Noble (the wife's favourite 'toy store'), and she looked around while Bean played in the children's section. They didn't have the book the wife wanted, but they do on Amazon, which I will order on Thursday when I get paid. :D

After going home for a rest, I left for the Australian Pink Floyd Show concert at the Uptown Theater. These guys sound so much like the original band, it's scary. (David Gilmour and Roger Waters have endorsed them). The sets were very well done.

Set 1:
Speak To Me/Breathe
On The Run
Time
The Great Gig In The Sky
Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1-5
Welcome To The Machine
Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Sheep

Set 2:
Astronomy Domine
Learning To Fly
High Hopes
Us & Them
Take It Back
The Fletcher Memorial Home
Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2
Wish You Were Here
One Of These Days
Hey You
Comfortably Numb

Encore: Run Like Hell

A good show, but a little stripped down. No lazers, and no mirror ball during Comfortably Numb. And to my surprise, they did not play Money, Floyd's biggest hit. But really, I had no complaints. This is the third year in a row I've seen them, and they're always good.

Now... to relax and get ready for tomorrow.

I got an early birthday gift last night

Last night, I went to see the Australian Pink Floyd Show. These guys are world renowned, having played for David Gilmour's 50th Birthday party, and to this day being the only tribute band to perform at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall. So with those kind of endorsements, I figured they would be good to see.

OH... MY... GOD... they were fantastic!! The show was at the small 3,000 seat Uptown Theater in Kansas City, but they adapted to the venue's size well. And they had all the trademarks of a Floyd show - lights, lasers, and the huge circular screen with movies projected during the songs. And during the performance, you can close your eyes and listen, and you would swear it was the real deal.

For the first set, we got a real treat...

THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON... in its entirety!!! Played with full effects, projections, everything! I consider it my birthday album, since it was released the same year I was born. I could have died happy... their performance was spot on. [info]auntee_mame, I wish you could have been there. You would have loved it!

The second set was just as good:

SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND PART 1-5 (from Wish You Were Here)
LEARNING TO FLY (from A Momentary Lapse of Reason)
TAKE IT BACK (from The Division Bell)
SET THE CONTROLS FOR THE HEART OF THE SUN (from A Saucerful of Secrets - 1968)
NOBODY HOME (from The Wall - performed with a little mini setup of chair and lamp, like in the movie)
PIGS (THREE DIFFERENT ONES) (from Animals)
WISH YOU WERE HERE
SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND PART 6 & 7
ONE OF THESE DAYS (from Meddle)
THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES/ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL PART 2
COMFORTABLY NUMB (complete with hugs mirror ball!)

ENCORE:
HEY YOU
RUN LIKE HELL

It would have been better served in a bigger venue (like an arena) but it all in all it was great show. I would definitely go see them again... it's the closest to Pink Floyd as you'll get now.

And for the remaining doubters, here's a video of highlights from the DVD they released a couple of years ago. Enjoy!
