Within Temptation - "Somewhere (featuring Anneke van Giersbergen and orchestra)"

Lost in the darkness
Hoping for a sign
Instead there's only silence
Can't you hear my screams?

Never stop hoping
Need to know where you are
But one thing's for sure
You're always in my heart

I'll find you somewhere
I'll keep on trying
Until my dying day
I just need to know
Whatever has happened
The truth will free my soul

Lost in the darkness
Tried to find your way home
I want to embrace you
And never let you go

Almost hope you're in heaven
So no one can hurt your soul
Living in agony
Cause I just do not know
Where you are

Wherever you are
I won't stop searching
Whatever it takes me to know

A little chuckle for all you Twilighters (and non-fans) out there

Twilight is #1 on Cracked.com's "6 Most Unintentionally Creepy Movie Romances".

The Romance:

When Bella Swan first sees Edward Cullen, she knows she's doomed to love him forever. Emphasis on "doomed." And how could she not with those pouty lips, that perfect bone structure and the hair that makes it look like he hasn't showered in weeks?

Fortunately for the spastic Bella, the feeling is mutual, as Edward becomes her number-one stalker and repeatedly sneaks into her bedroom to watch her sleep, which is in no way creepy at all. Of course when we tried this, all we got to show for it was a restraining order, which is just further proof that you should take movies with a grain of salt.

Wait, Something's Not Right Here...

Bella is a 17-year-old girl. Edward is a 108-year-old man.

What in the hell could they possibly have in common, besides the fact that they both go to high school? And, now that we mention it, why is this man STILL GOING TO FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL?!?! What could he possibly be getting out of the experience?

You have to wonder: How many high schools has Edward attended? How many high school girls have mooned over him? And here's the real question that we've been dancing around: How many Bellas have there been? After all, a man doesn't go to high school for 90 years without dating.

We're guessing that this guy has the creepiest scrapbook ever.

Definitely a different way of looking at it.

Tesla - "Stealin"

Originally recorded by Uriah Heep in 1973.

Take me across the water 'cause I need some place to hide
I done the rancher's daughter and I sure did hurt his pride aha

Oo..ooo Ooooo Ah ah ah
Oo..ooo Ooooo Ah ah ah

Well there's a hundred miles of desert lies between his hide and mine
I don't need no food and no water, Lord, 'cause I'm running out of time

Fightin', killin', wine and women, gonna put me to my grave
Runnin', hidin', losin', cryin', nothing left to save
But my life

Oo..ooo Ooooo Ah ah ah
Oo..ooo Ooooo Ah ah ah

Stood on a ridge and shunned religion thinking the world was mine
I made my break and a big mistake stealin' when I should've been buyin'

All that fightin', killin', wine and those women, gonna put me to an early grave
Runnin', hidin', losin', cryin', nothing left to save
But my life, life, life, life, life, life, life, life, life,

So I stood on a ridge and shunned religion thinking the world was mine
I made my break and a big mistake stealin' when I should've been buyin'
I was stealin' when I should've been buyin'
I was stealin' when I should've been buyin' yeah
Stealin' when I should've been buyin'

Green Day - "Last Night on Earth"

Green Day channels The Beatles... with great results!

I text a postcard sent to you
Did it go through?
Sending all my love to you
You are the moonlight of my life every night
Giving all my love to you
My beating heart belongs to you
I walked for miles til I found you
I'm here to honor you
If I lose everything in the fire
I'm sending all my love to you

With every breath that I'm worth here on Earth
I'm sending all my love to you
So if you dare to second guess you can rest assured
That all my love's all for you

My beating heart belongs to you
I walked for miles til I found you
I'm here to honor you
If I lose everything in the fire
I'm sending all my love to you

My beating heart belongs to you
I walked for miles til I found you
I'm here to honor you
If I lose everything in the fire
Did I ever make it through?

A great day

Today was one of those rare days where nothing went wrong for a change. I love days like this and hope to have more.

I took out for her birthday. With Bean in tow, we went to Logan's Steakhouse, which is a very cool place. (Any restaurant that plays the Rolling Stones and Stevie Ray Vaughan is cool.) We each had an appetizer (mozzarella sticks), a steak (she had the ribeye, I had sirloin), and dessert. Bean had her usual chicken fingers, and everyone left full.

Went to the mall to find a certain store, but it was not there. So we went to Barnes and Noble (the wife's favourite 'toy store'), and she looked around while Bean played in the children's section. They didn't have the book the wife wanted, but they do on Amazon, which I will order on Thursday when I get paid. :D

After going home for a rest, I left for the Australian Pink Floyd Show concert at the Uptown Theater. These guys sound so much like the original band, it's scary. (David Gilmour and Roger Waters have endorsed them). The sets were very well done.

Set 1:
Speak To Me/Breathe
On The Run
Time
The Great Gig In The Sky
Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1-5
Welcome To The Machine
Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Sheep

Set 2:
Astronomy Domine
Learning To Fly
High Hopes
Us & Them
Take It Back
The Fletcher Memorial Home
Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2
Wish You Were Here
One Of These Days
Hey You
Comfortably Numb

Encore: Run Like Hell

A good show, but a little stripped down. No lazers, and no mirror ball during Comfortably Numb. And to my surprise, they did not play Money, Floyd's biggest hit. But really, I had no complaints. This is the third year in a row I've seen them, and they're always good.

Now... to relax and get ready for tomorrow.

Another wacky weekend

Weekends for a me are not like everyone else's, mostly because I work and deal with the crazy party crowds. This weekend, so far, has brought the usual - busy Friday, not as busy but still loaded Saturday.

Last night was also a bit prolonged. Our overnight guy called in an hour and a half before shift was due to start, so there was a scramble to find someone to work. And while we did find someone, she was at her other job in Overland Park. (We're in Independence, MO, which is about a 45 minute drive.) So I had to work an extra 30 minutes. Nice for the extra money, but not when you've been there for 10 hours already and your feet are killing you. However, I did sleep well and have made a nice recovery for today.

Then there is today. I wake up and find out that my baby girl is sick. Been throwing up and cuddly all day. (Just like me when I get sick.) I would call in, but it's too late in the day to do that.

Plus, I already switched with someone so I could get tomorrow off. Monday is [info - personal] coffee_n_cocoa's birthday. It's also the night that The Australian Pink Floyd show comes back to town. I bought my ticket not realizing this fact, and I had a feeling she would kill me. However, I am taking her out for a nice lunch and then to do some shopping. She liked the idea, so evidently I have been forgiven for my oversight.

Well... time to work. Just gotta get through today...

Song of the day - 9/23/2009

Porcupine Tree - "Black Dahlia"

You have no interest in the past
Where you came from, or where you're going to
There's a cliché in your eye
File the edges down, soon be underground

There's nothing here for you under the sun
There's nothing new to do, it's all been done
So put your faith in another place
Never seem to get away from this
It's all falling into an abyss
So put your foot on the pedal, boy

All you know is second hand
The bullet passed through the cage inside you
You stole the only thing you love
So unfaithful, the drop is fatal

Song of the day - 9/22/2009

Porcupine Tree - "Bonnie The Cat"

Can't feel the pain that I expected
I still place keys in the ignition
I know what will be
One thought is stopping me from sleeping
I saw the future and it's breeding
I know what will be

Could be your last resort
Like gold against your soul

There are three things that I would die for
But I am sure you're not one of them
I know what will be

You think you've got it all wrapped up now
You stumble on so unsuspecting
I know what will be
I hold your birth control to ransom
The cells divide and grow inside you
I know what will be

First of the bonus tracks from 'The Incident'.

Porcupine Tree - "Flicker"

Nothing is new here underneath the sun
All of the big new charlatans will sneer at us
Barely a flicker of the light to come
Only the people who always think they know best

Pictures of The Incident box set, as promised

Steven Wilson said this of The Incident:

“There was a sign saying ‘POLICE – INCIDENT’ and everyone was slowing down to rubber neck what had happened,” he recalls. “Afterwards, it struck me that ‘incident’ is a very detached word for something so destructive and traumatic for the people involved. And then I had the sensation that the spirit of someone that had died in the car accident entered into my car and was sitting next to me.

“The irony of such a cold expression for such seismic events appealed to me, and I began to pick out other ‘incidents’ reported in the media and news,” continues Wilson. “I wrote about the evacuation of teenage girls from a religious cult in Texas, a family terrorizing its neighbours, a body found floating in a river by some people on a fishing trip, and more. Each song was written in the first person and tried to humanize the detached media reportage.”

The description fits very well into the art of The Incident.

Finally... The Incident is here! (Song here, pics in next post)

Yesterday, the wait finally finished for me. The Incident arrived!

As I said, I bought the limited edition box set. I have pictures of the pretty, which will be on the next post. This one is for the title track - a 55-minute song "cycle" that fucking rocks!

You can listen in two ways:

#1. As a single, full length track

or

#2. Split into individual tracks (parts), as they are presented on the CD.

Repeated listens are recommended. But above all... enjoy the ride!

Anticipation

As you can see by my icon, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of Porcupine Tree's newest album, 'The Incident'.

I decided to splurge and order the limited deluxe edition, which is very cool. Comes with the double CD set, a DVD-A of the album mixed in 5.1 surround sound, a 116-page hardback books featuring photographs by Lassie Hoile, and a 40-page softcover book with conceptual art and lyrics, all housed in a box-like slipcase. It arrives on Monday, and I will have pictures of the as well as posting the title track.

Actually, I will be posting all of the first disc, since the title "track" is a 55-minute epic!!

I thought that was very ambitious until I got the news that Transatlantic's new album, 'The Whirlwind', is a 77-MINUTE EPIC!! I'll be ordering the special edition of that, since it contains a second disc featuring 4 new original tracks and 4 cover songs.

Between the new Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Transatlantic... is is a great year for Prog Rock!

I know, I know...

It's been a while since I posted. But things have been busy in the household.

Visits with Cartoon Kid, who is now a freshman in high school. (How the hell did that happen!?!?!?!) Going to open house to meet his teachers was cool, though I'm unsure about his math teachers.

And then there was helping get the family ready to go out of town for family reunion. Alas, I could not get off from work, so did not go. But everything gelled and everyone is gone.

Which leaves me home... alone... before and after work.

What shall I do with myself?

Amazing pics of kids and tigers

Found these images on one of my link sites and they are just adorable! The site said, Tremendously powerful images created by tiny children interacting with enormous tigers. They are separated by thick glass, of course, but the images are spectacular. And I agree.

Thank you for sharing, mdolla. Those are beautiful.
